The Legislative Chamber endorsed the need to ban the privatization of parks and green spaces.

Let us remind you that the first session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, took place on November 18 of this year. In his speech, the head of state emphasized that all proposals put forward by political parties during the electoral campaign and supported by the public will be duly considered and implemented.

In particular, the draft law proposed by deputies of the Social Democratic Party "Adolat" to prohibit the privatization of parks, squares, and alleys has resonated with the population. Based on this, members of the factions of the SDP "Adolat" and the Ecological Party have developed a corresponding draft law and submitted it for consideration by the lower house of parliament.

The draft law proposes to prohibit the alienation of territories of cultural and recreational facilities, as well as their lands, buildings, and structures on these lands. The document also suggests including botanical gardens in the list of protected natural areas. It foresees a ban on the reduction of the territory of cultural and recreational facilities, the construction of buildings and structures (except for light constructions), or the expansion of the built-up area on existing facilities. It is proposed to strengthen criminal liability for such actions.

During the discussion, the deputies paid special attention to the content, significance, and necessity of the draft law, expressing their remarks and suggestions on its individual provisions. The initiators of the project provided detailed answers to the raised questions.

The deputies adopted the draft law in the first reading.
