According to the new law, the import, sale, and use of electronic cigarettes are prohibited in Kyrgyzstan. There are also penalties for violating these prohibitions. Individuals caught using electronic cigarettes will face a fine of 100 calculation indicators (1 calculation indicator equals 100 soms), while legal entities will incur a fine of 600 calculation indicators. For the sale of this product, the fine will be 200 calculation indicators for individuals and 650 for legal entities.
Additionally, the law amends the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan. Thus, illegal importation of electronic cigarettes in significant quantities will result in punishment ranging from corrective labor for two months to one year or a fine of 1000 to 1200 calculation indicators. For a similar act committed in large or especially large quantities, a fine of 1500 to 2000 calculation indicators or imprisonment for one to two years may be imposed, along with a possible prohibition on engaging in certain activities for up to one year.
With the adoption of this law, Kyrgyzstan is taking a step towards more effective control over the distribution of tobacco products and the protection of public health.
Let us remind you that in April 2024, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, signed a law amending several legislative acts regulating health issues. According to the new law, the sale and distribution of vapes are prohibited in Kazakhstan, which is part of broader measures to protect citizens' health.
Also in April, a bill was published in Uzbekistan, which is currently under public discussion. The document proposes a ban on the circulation of several types of tobacco and nicotine products, including electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco systems. The bill also includes provisions for accountability for violating these restrictions, highlighting the country's efforts to combat the spread of harmful habits and their health consequences.
