It has been noted that in recent years, practical measures have been implemented aimed at the extensive use of public transport to reduce traffic congestion in the capital and provide quality transportation services to the population. In particular, in Tashkent, the number of buses has doubled over the past two years, dedicated lanes for buses have been established, extending 48.2 km, the interval between buses has been halved, and the number of passengers has also increased twofold.
However, traffic jams remain one of the pressing issues for the population, especially in the capital. Over the past 2-3 years, Tashkent has experienced daily traffic congestion rated at 7-9 points, sometimes reaching as high as 10 points.
“Current legislation does not provide for the responsibility of drivers of vehicles using lanes designated for public transport. This, in turn, negatively affects road traffic and the free movement of public transport,” it was noted at the meeting.
The proposed bill includes provisions to define the responsibility for violating traffic rules in lanes specifically allocated for public transport.
The initiators pointed out that the adoption of the bill would facilitate the organization of quality and convenient services for passengers using public transport, ensuring the prioritization of public transport and road safety.
At the meeting, another bill aimed at ensuring road safety on highways was reviewed in its first reading. In particular, it defines norms aimed at preventing vehicles from using sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and green zones.
The document outlines measures of accountability for curbing instances of illegal barricading of roadways by the public or obstructing the movement of vehicles and citizens.
During the meeting, deputies noted that the adoption of this bill would ensure the safety of road users and create conditions for their free movement.
The bills were approved by the deputies in the first reading.
