Since the beginning of this year, the republic has recorded 74 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning (compared to 86 cases in 2023). This was reported at a briefing by Abdusattor Kayumov, the head of the AO “Khududgazta'minot” management.
As a result of such incidents this year, 82 people have died (compared to 88 in 2023), and 80 individuals (compared to 119 in 2023) have suffered injuries of varying severity. In some instances, entire families have perished due to carbon monoxide poisoning caused by faulty chimneys.
“The causes of these incidents include a lack of awareness about the dangers of carbon monoxide, distrust in preventive measures, the use of non-standard, homemade, or faulty equipment, as well as improper installation or untimely inspection of chimneys and ventilation systems,” noted Abdusattor Kayumov.
According to him, each such case is treated as an emergency event. To prevent the recurrence of tragedies in the future, citizens are strongly advised to strictly adhere to the safety rules for gas usage, ensure proper ventilation in rooms with operating gas equipment, avoid using gas stoves for heating, and refrain from sleeping in rooms where gas is turned on.
