The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan has urged for a legal assessment of waste dumps.

During the space monitoring conducted this year by the agency "Uzbekcosmos," it was discovered that there are 1928 illegal dumps in Uzbekistan, covering an area of over 720 hectares.

In addition to the serious negative impact on the environment, waste poses a significant threat to human health, stated the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.

“To clarify, there will be an increase in harmful insects, a rise in infectious disease cases, and people may develop lung cancer and experience respiratory issues,” the statement read.

For this reason, other countries have established designated landfills where waste is transported, and part of the garbage is recycled whenever possible, the agency reported.

“Since illegal dumps pose a threat to human health, it is important to provide them with a legal assessment,” the Ministry of Health concluded.
