Russian director Alexey Frandetti has taken the helm of the Navoi Theater in Tashkent.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan – According to AN Podrobno.uz, the new artistic director of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Tashkent is Alexey Frandetti, a Russian director originally from Uzbekistan, as reported by a Podrobno.uz correspondent.

"This event is set to become a landmark in the cultural life of the country and inspire a new generation of artists," states the press service of the Navoi State Academic Bolshoi Theatre (GABT).

The Bolshoi Theatre anticipates that Frandetti's creative approach will make GABT even more appealing to audiences of all ages. The new artistic director will be able to implement his ambitious ideas and projects, which will undoubtedly enrich the cultural landscape not only of Uzbekistan but also of Central Asia as a whole.

For reference. Alexey Frandetti was born in Tashkent and graduated from the Tashkent Higher School of National Dance and Choreography. In 2002, he moved to Moscow, and in 2006 he graduated from VGIK. Frandetti gained significant recognition as a musical theatre director. In July 2022, he took the position of chief director at the "Lenkom" theatre of Mark Zakharov, and in June 2024, he announced his transition to the Estrada Theatre. On December 17, 2024, Frandetti's musical "Mayakovsky" at "Lenkom" was awarded the international audience choice award "Star of the Theatre" for Best Musical Production.

It should be noted that from January 2019 to September 2022, the GABT named after Navoi was led by renowned Russian choreographer Andris Liepa.
