The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has commented on the blocking of UnionPay by Gazprombank.

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan and the country's banks have not blocked UnionPay cards issued by Gazprombank, reported the regulator's press service.

“The Central Bank and local banks have not blocked the operation of UnionPay cards. We believe that more detailed information can be obtained from representatives of UnionPay,” the statement from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan reads.

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan accredited Gazprombank's representative office in the country in January 2022. Last week, TASS reported that cash withdrawals from UnionPay cards at ATMs within the country became unavailable.

It was previously reported that banks in Uzbekistan, as well as in Turkey, the UAE, Kazakhstan, Hungary, India, China, and other countries, stopped servicing UnionPay cards issued by Russian Gazprombank.
